What’s a retainer agreement?

Hiring me on retainer means entering into a contractual agreement where you pay a monthly fee to secure my services over a specified period.

This arrangement guarantees that I am available to work on your projects or provide an agreed-upon amount of content each month.

Unlike project-based or ad-hoc engagements, a retainer ensures that a dedicated portion of my time and effort is reserved for your needs, creating a more stable and ongoing working relationship. You get consistent content, and I get to work with you over a longer period of time. It’s win-win.

Why hire me on retainer?

Benefits of us working together for a longer period include:

Preferential Rates

Enjoy a cheeky discount of up to 20% for all your content.

Consistent Quality

A retainer agreement ensures consistent access to a writer whose style and quality you know and trust. (That’s me!) This consistency helps maintain the tone and standard of your content month after month.

Priority Service

With a retainer agreement, your projects typically move to the front of the line. You’re essentially paying to have me reserve time for your work, which means that I’ll always have availability for you.

Budget Predictability

Retainer agreements allow for better budget management. You know in advance how much you’ll spend on writing services, which helps with financial planning and management.

Strategic Partnership

Over time, I’ll become super familiar with your company’s brand, voice, and objectives. This means I can produce content that aligns with your goals.

Flexibility

By signing up for a retainer with me, you get access to a generous discount. You can add additional content (with enough notice) at the same preferential rate. This means you can adjust your content strategy as needed without negotiating new terms or finding a new writer each time.

Saves You Time

Finding a writer you want to work with can take significant time and resources. Once you’ve finally found someone (me!), a retainer agreement can save you the time and hassle of searching for a new freelancer for each project.

Improved Workflow

A single, reliable writer handling your content needs can streamline your workflow. There’s less need for constant briefings and onboarding for each new piece of work, as I’ll already be familiar with your requirements and preferences.

You write with real clarity and precision. The sources you use are great, and I don’t have to rewrite any of it, which is the BEST!

Terms and conditions of retainer agreements

  • Cancellations: Retainer agreements cannot be cancelled during the agreement period, as you receive a discounted rate in exchange for guaranteed work.
  • Payment Schedule: Payment must be made at the beginning of each billing cycle (monthly or quarterly) to secure my services for that period. Your contract will detail when invoices will be sent, payment due dates, and late payment policies.
  • Catch-up Calls: The agreement entitles you to monthly calls to discuss content performance, upcoming content needs, and any adjustments to your strategy or content calendar. Additional calls are chargeable. It is your responsibility to book these calls.
  • Communication: You and I will agree on the primary modes of communication (emails, Slack, Zoom, etc) and project management tools (Trello, Asana, Google Drive) for managing tasks, deadlines, and feedback.
